My 44-Year Best Friend

Jivisha's POV (Daughter)

I was sitting in my boardroom meeting, fiddling with my pen. My boss was entertaining us with his boring presentation. Everyone around me was yawning and had their heads hanging out of boredom desperately waiting for the session to end. Suddenly my phone vibrates.

I look down at my lit up phone screen which had a notification from my mum. As I swiped up to unlock my phone to read her message, I found myself smiling looking at the wallpaper which had the the picture of me clinging onto my Mom.

"Beta, when are you coming back? It has been a while since you've been back home. We all miss you." Maa's message read.

Somewhere in my mind I knew it has been a while since I have been back in Delhi. It had been almost 8 months since last Diwali when I was in Delhi to attend a meeting and hence could manage to catch up with my family.

I checked my schedule and realised I had a weekend to spare. Even better it was Mother's Day. "Ting-Tong" an idea popped up and I thought of giving her a surprise. I grabbed my phone and wrote, "Maa, this time I won't be able to come. May be next time!... Promise."

"It's fine Jivi! But, call me tonight?" she replied. Even though she was trying hard not to sound sad but I could make out her disappointment. But realising that soon I'll be turning that frown into a big grin I started checking for earliest flights available.

The two hours flight really seemed long. I was craving to be home with my family and was desperate to see the reaction of my mom when she'll see me at the door.

On my way home, I stopped to purchase a mother's day cake and bouquet of Jasmine, not to forget I had already purchased a Sambalpuri for her on my last trip to Bhubaneshwar. After this, there was no stopping for the reason that I can't wait to see her smile.

And within no time, I was there. Standing at my doorstep. I rung the call bell and my mum received the door. She had this neutral expression as if she was expecting me.  My brother rushed out to hug me and pick my luggage. When I walked in I was surprised it was my welcome back party.

"What's this maa?" I questioned. "Bachaa, it was clear that you were lying. I've known you long enough to catch you mid-lie. It was quite easy because we have spent a lot of time together, more than you can imagine. 5 hours a day when you were in your teens watching The Vampire Diaries or Pretty Little Liars and other series. It's no joke, my dear." She hugged me and whispered Welcome Back Home in my ears. She indeed was my 44-year Best friend.

I wrote this one long ago, on Mother's Day, for a contest going on Wattpad. But I just got time to post it. So..!

I hope everyone reads it and show some love. Leave your opinions down in the comment section. Rest, Peace out Readers until next time!
